Airplane needs air to travel where a Rocket does not. this is because airplane utilizes air as a medium to travel where a Rocket uses the Newton^s third law of motion that stipulates that every action has equal but opposite reaction.You can watch while Rockets traveling there comes a jet of fire coming out forcibly from behind the rocket which as per Newton^s third law of motion pushes rocket forcibly forward .that is why rockets are meant for outer space travel where there is no Atmosphere.
